AH 136. Principles of Phlebotomy


This course will enable the student to define the principles and practices of phlebotomy including legal and ethical considerations, basic safety, specimen collection, transport, and specimen processing based on national and state standards of practice. The student will demonstrate anatomy and physiology knowledge and basic skills required to collect, handle, and process blood and non-blood specimens in the role of phlebotomy technician. The student will utilize verbal and nonverbal communication skills to interact professionally with patients, healthcare personnel, and the public. The student must be 17 years of age to be eligible to take a national phlebotomy certification exam upon successful completion of AH137 Phlebotomy Clinical Practicum course.
