FS 131. Paramedic 1: Foundation


This course will enable the student to incorporate emergency medical services foundations into an assessment-based approach to patient care based upon the Kansas Board of EMS Education Standards, and the NHTSA National EMS Education Standards. The student will describe preparatory emergency medical science information including medical-legal considerations, communications, documentation, patient history gathering and patient assessment; and demonstrate integration of this information and psychomotor skills at component through scenario levels. The student will apply theory and practice to clinical experiences. The student must be at least 17 years of age to be eligible to take the National Registry of EMTs paramedic certification exams.

Prerequisite(s): Current certification as a Kansas Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Advanced EMT (AEMT), current immunizations, successful completion of a criminal background check and drug screen, and acceptance into the program.
